Waitangi
Waitangi Treaty Grounds is the scene of the 1840 signing of the Treaty of Waitangi
Treaty House, Ngati Kawa
The grounds contain the Treaty House, a Maori Meeting house, one of the largest Maori waka (war canoe) in New Zealand, a gallery and an excellent visitors’ centre.
You’ll want at least half a day to absorb the beauty and history of the site – the guided tours and daytime entertainment are recommended, as are the excellent Maori cultural performances in the evenings.
Cultural Performance
This vast peaceful estate is a must see for any visitor interested in New Zealand's history and culture.
Adjacent to the Treaty Grounds is the Waitangi Golf Course. This wonderful course is located in a wonderful setting with majestic ocean views.
And for a deeper understanding of how mangrove forests fit into coastal ecology, take a trek through to Haruru Falls or join a guided kayak tour.
