Here we find the fabulous Karikari Peninsula and Doubtless Bay consisting of several seaside townships and an abundance of superb, safe beaches. Each with its own special character, ranging from rugged and rocky to sheltered and sublime.
Doubtless Bay has one of the oldest ports in New Zealand. The main settlements here are Taipa, Cable Bay, Coopers Beach and Mangonui which dates back to the early 1800's when it was a whaling base. There's a whaling museum at nearby Butler Point.
On the Karikari Peninsula you'll find that Maitai Bay, Whatuwhiwhi and Tokerau Beach are beautiful places to swim, fish, dive, walk or just laze about. There's also a championship golf course and award winning vineyard.
Taupo Bay, Tauranga Bay and Mahinepua are places to experience kiwi beach bliss. Taupo Bay is a beautiful idyllic beach with white sand and crystal clear blue waters and a popular surf spot. It's also ideal for surfcasting (fishing) from the beach.
If you are not in, on or under the water, you will certainly be close to it. Off the water, lovers of food and wine will also find plenty to keep them happy in Doubtless Bay - a gastro hot spot. Whatever your choice, in a peaceful environment you can soak up the sunshine in a subtropical climate, far from motorways, traffic lights and the stress of city life. Here, the water is clean, the air is clear, the beauty is unforgettable and nowhere is crowded. It's a gentle, happy escape.
