Ferries

There are 3 short ferry trips available in Northland.

Several companies offer frequent passenger services between Paihia and Russell.

Two vehicle ferries operate in the region which are suitable for all vehicles. One crossing the bay between Opua and Okiato en route to Russell, Bay of Islands. The other across the picturesque Hokianga Harbour between Rawene and Kohukohu.

Bookings not required. Pay on board each vessel.No EftPos or Credit cards.

PAIHIA - RUSSELL PASSENGER SERVICE

Frequent departures from both towns between the hours of 7am and 10pm.

OPUA - OKIATO VEHICLE FERRY, BAY OF ISLANDS

Okiato is about 10 minutes drive from Russell, and Opua is about 15 minutes from Paihia. The ferry operates as a shuttle service with crossings approximately every 10 minutes between the hours listed.

Okaito - Opua 1st sailing 6.40am. Last sailing 9.50pm

Opua - Okiato 1st sailing 6.40am. Last sailing 10pm
