Getting here by coach, self drive, or on a guided tour is a wonderful relaxing journey into subtropical Northland. There are so many interesting little townships and spectacular coastal vistas to while away the journey – so if you’re driving remember to allow plenty of time.

Auckland is the main international gateway for travel to Northland. We have 3 regional airports - Whangarei, Kerikeri (Bay of Islands) and Kaitaia, with regular scheduled services to and from Auckland. Charter operators can bring you here from anywhere in New Zealand.

Arriving in Northland by sea is unbelievably spectacular - your coastal journey is bound to impress. Stunning headlands, bush covered hillsides and long stretches of beach greet you as you head for terra firma. If you are arriving by boat from overseas there are two official Ports of Entry into Northland.
