Northland Inc and Northland Chamber of Commerce congratulate RBP award winners at Business Excellence Awards

Posted on October 29, 2015

Northland Inc and the Northland Chamber of Commerce are thrilled that four Regional Business Partnership (RBP) companies won at the 2015 Westpac Northland Business Excellence awards on Friday night (October 23).

The four RBP companies are: Donovan Group NZ Ltd (supreme award; excellence in business – large award; and the Northland Inc Innovation award); Building and Fire Services (excellence in small business award) New Zealand Honey Traders Ltd (excellence in micro-business award) and Trident Technical Services (Workplace Safety award). Another RBP company, Villa Italia Ltd, was a finalist in the Judges choice award.

“All companies that entered the awards are winners but we are especially thrilled that the RBP was able to contribute in some small way to that success. It is a sign that the programmes work.” says Northland Inc chief executive officer David Wilson.

The RBP provides programmes to build capability and support innovation in companies that want to innovate and grow. It is delivered in Northland by Northland Inc in partnership with the Northland Chamber of Commerce and funded by New Zealand Trade and Enterprise and Callaghan Innovation.

“We are also pleased to see a number of Lion Foundation Young Enterprise Scheme (YES) graduates now winning awards and would like to congratulate Top Energy and the other partners (Maanaki Solutions, NorthTec, Northpower, Copthorne Hotel, Gilmore Brown, Design Print, More FM, Northern Advocate, Music Workshop, UIT, ASB) in sponsoring the YES programme; these are all important parts of building an entrepreneurial culture in Northland.”

In the end though the companies are the heroes; here is what the judges said of Donovan’s: “Donovan Group is a long standing Northland business which impressed the judges with their strong leadership and foresight, committed to take itself and the industry to the next level. Innovative products and processes have been achieved through strategic supplier partnerships, securing key personnel and intellectual property requirements. Efficient workshop manufacture and supply are aided by its national Coresteel franchise system and their bespoke IT planning and management system.”

The other RBP winners are all very different with New Zealand Honey Traders a Hokianga-based company which produces top quality Manuka honey; Building and Fire Services which provides fire protection, safety and compliance for businesses and; Trident Technical Services, a Whangarei-based general and marine engineering company which serves the marine, infrastructure, agriculture and complex heavy industries. Kerikeri’s Villa Italia Ltd produces the highly acclaimed Sovrano Limoncello Liqueur.
