We have had a highly productive start to 2016 with events, announcements and openings to keep us all on our toes.
The Tai Tokerau Northland Economic Action Plan (the Action Plan) was launched in Kerikeri on February 4, one year after the Tai Tokerau Regional Growth Study launch. The Action Plan is key to improving Northland’s economy and prosperity. Read the Tai Tokerau Northland Economic Action Plan and David's viewpoint.
During the course of the launch Minister Joyce took the opportunity to announce a $4 million grant for the Hundertwasser Art Centre here in Whangarei. This was very well received as the Prosper Northland Trust are now well on track to reach their $16.25m target.
The following day the Museum of Waitangi, ‘Te Kōngahu’ - a Ngapuhi word referring to an unborn child - metaphor for the potential and promise of a new nation - was opened by the Governor General, Sir Jerry Mateparae.
The museum is at the heart of a $14 million redevelopment of the Treaty Grounds, and is set to become an iconic attraction for both New Zealanders and international visitors.
