Tai Tokerau Maori Business Awards Big Night Out

Minister for Maori Development Te Ururoa Flavell and entertainer Moana Maniapoto returned to the north on Friday 27, May for the 2016 Tai Tokerau Maori Business Awards held at Forum North in Whangarei.

The black tie event was very well supported with participants eager to be a part of the sea change for Maori in the business world.

Former All Black Eric Rush of Whaingaroa and now Kaikohe New World supermarket owner provided the lighter side of the evening with tales of his childhood bringing the house down not to mention his former babysitter.

Despite the hilarity he still managed to add a message, ‘for many young Maori that their talent is their own worst enemy because it will get them to a certain level but only hard work will break through the glass ceiling.

Memorable too that evening was the short speech given by Shane Horan of Waipapa Pine Ltd who emphasised how his staff of 80 displayed a commitment to the firm that went well above contractual expectations.

Minister Flavell congratulated all participants and staff involved in the organisation of the night.
