Visitor numbers, nights, expenditure and other data
Updated quarterly in January, April, July and October. Last updated 29.10.07
*Northland data is sourced from the Commercial Accommodation Monitor and relates to the following territorial authority areas: Far North District, Whangarei District and Kaipara District.
The information is collected via a monthly survey run by Statistics New Zealand. Data is collected from accommodation operators with an annual turnover of $30,000 plus per annum, therefore the numbers quoted in the data do not include visitors staying in smaller B&B's, staying with friends and relatives, daytrippers, 'boaties', cruise ship passengers etc. Best estimates are that visitor numbers are actually double the CAM results to account for these types of visitors. CAM data includes both international and domestic guests.
Care should be taken when comparing statistics from the CAM with other sources as the target populations and methodology may not be comparable.
Technical notes explains terms used in the data view.
