As most of you will be aware the changes to the Health and Safety Act 2015 come into effect on 4 April 2016.
The Act is part of "Working Safer: a blueprint for health and safety at work" and reforms New Zealand's health and safety system following the recommendations of the Independent Taskforce on Workplace Health and Safety. This has widespread implications for the tourism industry and New Zealand as a whole. It now means there are a new set of requirements that our operators need to meet to continue working with Northland Inc and Tourism New Zealand especially in the famil space. A working group involving Tourism New Zealand representatives, Tourism Industry Association, RTONZ and some of the country’s RTO's have created an industry-wide approach to managing some of these changes, especially regarding famils involving activities and attractions.
We now require more health and safety information from the operators we work with to meet our obligations under the Act. For some of you it may only require providing us with a small amount of additional information such as copies of your Worksafe or governing body certification. For others it may require further detail around your health and safety practices, certifications, and qualifications.
When booking future famils, Northland Inc will be requesting this type of information from each operator. Once we have received the information and it meets all the requirements, your product will be eligible to participate in famils going forward. If you are unable to provide the above information, we may not be able to include you in famils until we have the necessary information.
