At the Sign of the Crippled Harlequin

What better way to spend a winter’s evening out than a delicious three course meal in an intimate ambience with a crackling fire, followed by an exciting light hearted whodunit?  This is precisely the package offered by the Octagon theatre’s forthcoming production, opening on 26th August.

‘At the Sign of the Crippled Harlequin’ is a brand new thriller by the popular playwright Norman Robbins and is having its premier production in New Zealand.

“A group of guests have arrived at a snowbound small historic hotel in England’s Peak district to enjoy a white Christmas.

The mood is cheerful as everyone looks forward to a relaxing few days of rural scenic splendour, fine food and pleasant company.  But the bonhomie is short lived.  A mischievous case of mistaken identity triggers a devastating sequence of events culminating in the sudden death of one of the guests. The finger of suspicion is widespread. Was it accident? Or murder? More outrageously was the culprit the - so called mythical - resident ghost known as the crippled harlequin?

Layers of respectability are stripped away as hidden devious secrets, and agendas, of the guests are slowly exposed.  And the plot twists and wriggles like an angry snake, through to the final surprise ending”.

This light hearted thriller has something for everyone, chuckles, mystery and a rattling good winter’s tale.

The cast are experienced favourites, with Bill Finn, Terry O’Grady, Terri Brian, Tane Davis, Jane Barr, Jean Millington, Dave Pelham and Alex Puddle.  Directed by Richard Harris.
