3rd Annual Black & White Masquerade Ball

Mark Cromie Holden Indoor Sports Centre, Whangarei on Saturday 27 March 2010, 7:00pm

In the short space of two years, the Valentines Masquerade Charity Ball has become Whangarei’s biggest night out.

The inaugural event in February 2008 was such an outstanding success that a follow-up last year was a foregone conclusion, and the Diamonds on Ice themed extravaganza certainly didn’t disappoint.

Planning by event organiser Kate Bell for this year’s Ball began almost immediately, but for a time it seemed the tough business environment would threaten the sponsorship on which its staging depended. However the very good news for those who’ve enjoyed the previous events is that the tenacious Ms Bell and the commitment of key sponsors of the Ballhave ensured it will go ahead this year, albeit a month later than usual on the evening of Saturday March 27th.

Others likely to be pleased with that news are the families of many of Northland’s chronically ill children. They benefit significantly from the Balls, as proceeds from the events help with a wide range of assistance such as supporting travel costs to visit their youngsters undergoing treatment in Auckland. Kate says it’s important that people understand that raising funds to help those families was what inspired the idea for the annual Balls in the first place, and that it wouldn’t be possible to hold them without many willing volunteers and sponsors.*

The proceeds from the Balls are received and administered by the Shikhinah Trust, which then allocates funds in response to requests from the SKIN Trust. Prominent local lawyer Andrew Golightly is the trustee of the Shikhinah Trust, along with accountant Noeline Tane, and artist Rachel Doring. Andrew says the charitable trust was established in October 2007 with the principal object of ensuring that money raised in Northland was used to help Northland based families.

Be part of a wonderful evening of entertainment supporting a very worthy cause by securing your tickets for the 3rd annual Black & White Masquerade Ball from Ticketek from March 1.

* A list of the sponsors of the Masquerade Ball will be published nearer the date of the event, but if you are interested in adding your sponsorship support for the families of Northland’s chronically ill children please contact Kate at kate@katebellevents.co.nz
