Tracey Tomtene (Canada): Encompass

“No one realizes how beautiful it is to travel until he comes home and rests his head on his old, familiar pillow.” - Lin Yutang

A selection of the images have been bound into a limited edition book titled “Encompass” which will also be on display for the duration of the exhibition in the Yvonne Rust Gallery. “Encompass” the book is also available online at http://www.blurb.com/books/682406

“These photos express my deepest belief that there is art in every living moment – even those that appear prosaic or mundane. I never cease to be amazed by the honesty of the human spirit, spontaneous moments balanced by a quiet affinity and the profundity to be found in even the most fleeting, everyday occurrence. To me, it is all iconic and extraordinary, worth capturing and immortalizing.”

Tracey Tomtene grew up and has lived in various parts of Western Canada and has also made temporary homes abroad in the UK and New Zealand. Although she studied business in university, it was a black and white darkroom photography course that would reveal her subsequent craft.

Past photo essays have taken her to various destinations across Europe, SE Asia, North America and the South Pacific. She has participated in group exhibitions in Canada, NZ and the US, and most recently, a solo exhibition in Edmonton, Alberta. Recent slideshows have been exhibited in Brooklyn, NY at David Alan Harvey’s ‘Kibbutz’ and also Host Gallery’s Slide Slam (Foto8 Magazine) in London, UK. Publications include Geist, Signature, Verge and SBC Surf in Canada and The Bud in Indonesia.

She is currently dreaming up her next photographic odyssey while residing in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Travel prints can be purchased online at www.traceytomtene.com. For signed, matted and framed prints, contact Tracey directly at tracey@traceytomtene.com.
