Denis joined the Tourist Hotel Corporation as a trainee manager in 1970. He rose through the ranks (including time in the Cook Islands & Samoa) to become Deputy Chief Executive of THC in 1980.
He transferred to the new owner SPHC (now Intercontinental) when THC was sold in 1990 and became an Area Manager in NZ & Australia. He managed the Hermitage at Aoraki Mount Cook from 1993 - 2008 and developed tourism products including The Sir Edmund Hillary Alpine Centre at Aoraki.
He helped establish the Alps to Ocean cycle trail before semi-retiring in Kerikeri where he is a part owner of The Rusty Tractor Café.
