Northland showcased to golfers around the world

Te Tai Tokerau Northland has been dubbed a 'must for golfers' by a journalist profiling the region in a national golfing magazine that reaches an international audience online.

Writing for Golfer Pacific Magazine, Peter Thornton's tour of the region was supported by the Destination Team at Northland NZ – and the timing of his four-page spread couldn't have been better. His glowing review appears in the magazine's August edition, which features champion Kiwi golfer Ryan Fox on the cover. Fresh from his recent win at The Open Championship in England, Fox's major achievement on the world stage is a historic moment for New Zealand golf, and one that's likely to attract a wide readership.

With 23 affiliated golf clubs in Te Tai Tokerau, developing an itinerary for Peter wasn't an easy task, but our team liaised with multiple local operators to ensure Peter got the trip he was after – a taste of all that Northland offers, including experiences beyond the golf course.

Designed as a long-weekend golfing getaway that didn't exclude the family, the itinerary combined three rounds of golf with mates and two days of family adventures. Taking in panoramic views along the way, Peter played at Mangawhai, Waipū and Northland golf courses while also exploring the activities, accommodation, eateries and epic scenery that make Northland a great destination for the whole family. As well as the magazine spread, Peter posted several course reviews on Facebook, which were shared across golf groups with almost 150,000 members collectively. The Facebook reviews generated strong interest, extending Northland's exposure to both domestic and international golf audiences.
