A welcoming community

Piki mai taku manu, kake me taku manu.
Ki te taha o te wainui, ki te taha o te wairoa
Ka tū te Rupe ki tai,
Ka whaka kii kii
Ka whaka kaa kaa
No reira
Nau mai, haere mai ki Te Tai Tokerau.

Whether you are drawn to culture and people, natural wonders and contrasting coastlines, or exciting adventures, we the people of Northland hope you find something special here. You will be welcome here.

People of all cultures and religions are welcomed and celebrated in our region. Northland prides itself on being safe, respectful and inclusive.

Northlanders live by the value of Manaakitanga which speaks of being a kind and generous host, and including visitors in a holistic way, regardless of ethnicity.

As a visitor to our place you may be lucky to be formally welcomed with a Pōwhiri or Whakatau, a formal Maori welcome.

Pōwhiri or welcome ceremonies provide a special opportunity for visitors to experience Māori traditions in action.
